Saturday Morning Traditions

When I was a little girl we had big breakfasts on the weekends.  My daddy made homemade biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, and fried eggs.  When I “got grown” I asked him to teach me how to make gravy with no lumps, bacon that stayed flat, and eggs that didn’t have that hard edge on them.  He did.  And, though now I usually make those frozen biscuits because they’re so much easier, I do still have the talent to make “scratch” biscuits.  And now, I’m passing those secrets onto my own children.

This morning we made them with a little extra love.

  • Ahhhh, great memories. We always had big weekend breakfasts growing up, too. So sweet that you are passing on the tradition… and i love the heart biscuits! :-)
(love your spool “necklace” hanging behind the boys, too!!)

What great Sat morn memories… I love the hearts. love them…

  • i love that spool necklace too – from one of my mom's friends. and the
apron on there is from Blessed Adventures (who commented here also, love
you, Cat!) but the real question is: do you also love the fire extinguisher
by the coffee pot?! i pulled it out of the cabinet the other day (buried
beneath toddler toys under the sink) when we thought we smelled smoke. it
    was the toaster! ridiculous, right?!

  • i know, sweet, right? and we make heart everything – pb&j sandwiches,
cinnamon toast, crust on chicken pot pie – everything, but heart biscuits
are new – impromptu when i went looking for the right sized glass to use!
hope you're feeling better VERY soon!

Your daddy taught you well!!! Now you are doing the same for your kids. Those biscuits look absolutely beautiful. They rose up a LOT better than my scratch biscuits, and the hearts? Well, they made my heart just a little warmer today.
    Thanks,
    Ann

  • what precious memories! i think that is so cool that you have daddy memories like that. when i was growing up, saturday was the day my daddy cooked too. he either made chili or beef stew. :)

I love that the boys are cooking. Men make such GOOD cooks and I bet their wives won't mind a bit. Cooking with “LOVE” always means that you put your “HEART” into it. Sorry, couldn't help myself. Love ya'll

  • Great job on those biscuits! As long as they're not canned, the kids are happy :)

  • There's nothing like a big homemade breakfast. I love them! :) My dad fixes breakfast every year on Christmas and it's a nice tradition.
