Love your post (always do!)
I made the terrible mistake of doing virtual school two years ago, when Oliver was born. I thought that with a 2nd grader, kindergartner, toddler, and newborn, it would be easier to use a fully planned and structured curriculum. While they DO have good materials, it was overly structured and intense for a 2nd grader!! I should have just pulled out all of the extra workbooks, like you've done.

Ethan is my 2nd grader now, and he struggles with spelling, too. We use a lot of Explode the Code, which has helped. He needs lots of phonics & rules! :-)

My preschooler struggles with remembering anything. And I mean anything. He doesn't focus. I'm praying for some growth before he starts K next year. We're fairly relaxed about it anyway, but I don't want to go insane trying to teach him some basics.

With all kids over 2 now, I'm finally getting back into my Charlotte Mason and eclectic hands-on groove again. It's so nice. You'll be back there before you know it. :-)

Noah had reached a stumbling block with regrouping....it was really bogging us down. Now, he is studying multiplication, and he is enjoying that. We also had major problems with spelling, and I didn't know what to do with that. He brought home his spelling list yesterday, with 8-10 letter words, and I about stroked...(that is compared to 4 letter words Leah had for 2nd grade). We sat down, talked about them, and went over them, and when I quizzed him, he was spelling them all right. I was amazed, and then he told me it was b/c I had helped him. I was like, really? How then, have I not been able to teach you to spell in 4 yrs, but my help in 30 mins, you got it?
