i KNOW you’re not

…talkin’ ’bout my mad laundry skills…

this mornin’ while my honey was getting ready for work, i brought him his favorite shirt to wear to work.  a tan t-shirt – oh, so comfy for fridays.

he took it from me and said,”why’s it look pink?”

“pink?”, i say, pretending as though there is absolutely nothing wrong with the shirt he holds in his hands.

“yeah, pink.  see it?”, he says holding it into the light.

“hmm, well, you know, pink is the new brown.”

from the laugh he offered up, i’m not so sure he’s buyin’ it.

my honey

he is one of the funniest people i know.  by far.  and i love it.  i feel sad for all you people that don’t know him in person.  you’re missin’ out.  and i hate that he’s not blogging anymore.  he made the blog world a little better.  anyway, he got up the other morning and took this whole crew to town.  by himself.  including the little monkey in his arms.  10 months and i’ve never been away from that little attachment.  and just what did i do with all that freedom?  can you guess?  yep, i took a shower.  and stood in there forever.  alone.  with no one at my feet.  no one dumping shampoo.  no one screaming.  no one banging on the door.  aah.
my knight in shining armor.

our tree 2.0

i posted all about our tree last year.  how it has colored fiber optics and white lights.  my husband brought home 300 colored lights the other day.  and he and the kiddos (yes, all 4 of them – it was a scene) hung them on the tree tonight.  and we all loved it.  so here are a couple of the updated pics.  and didn’t my honey take amazing pics?!

to daddy: who makes everything possible

[slideshow id=504403158291672999&w=426&h=320]

on the inside looking out

as their daddy walked toward the front door to leave for work, he said loudly, “bye little ones!”  and they came from all directions for that absolutely beloved time of day.  and each of their little personalities were as shining as they were.  “BYE DADDY!” rang through the house.  each so different and so wonderful.  each as full of love as the next one.

my oldest, getting up slowly from his chair in front of the tv said so matter-of-factly, “bye daddy.”  as though there were other, more important things to do.  but his movement to the door gave away his “i wouldn’t miss this for the world” secret.

my daughter came daintily, almost on tip-toe, wearing the fuschia winter cap and matching mittens that her nana gave her last night.  they coordinated perfectly with her pink minnie mouse pajamas.  “bye, bye daddy!”  she had almost gotten to her daddy for her last cuddle when her older brother, the so-full-of-motion-that-he-cannot-stand-still-even-for-a-moment one, passed her by.  in his patented skipping running jumping move with arms flailing (for he absolutely must not be last to get his daddy’s head rubbing send-off)  and so loud he could not be overlooked “BYE-BYE DADDY!!!”

and now there’s another.  one that has yet to reveal his full person.  or just maybe, as with the others, it’s already there and we just won’t recognize it until we look back in a few years and realize that he’s been himself from the very beginning.  realizing that all the others were exodusing to the door, well, then that must be the place to be, and off he crawled in his very own crawl.  one that is just him.  his brothers and sister had the same crawl.  a peg-leg push with one leg crawl.  he’s the only one to do a classic “perfect” crawl.  and he controls the speed beautifully now.  seeing the others, he knew he must accelerate to not miss the excitement of the moment.  letting out his own unintelligible one syllable greeting in order to be a part.

in that tiny moment of hair-touseling, knee-hugging, eyes gleaming the way they do for only one other occasion, the home-coming each day, my mundane world came into focus.  the chaotic joy all around me showed itself as order.  as beautiful.  as perfect.
