very cool. and nana and papa met us for the adventure - which made it all the better!
i can’t believe people actually travelled on a ship like this across the ocean. with children. and i think i get cabin fever during the winter. i cannot imagine.
worth catching this if you can. and if you have small children it’s just right. it’s all open to the elements and everything can be touched. it’s pretty safe (high walls), the staff are so laid back and yet available and really want to answer all your questions. if you can’t catch it in pine bluff this weekend, they’ll be in little rock next week and then headed up to fort smith.

hey, pilgrims! it’s field trip time!

the first historically correct replica of the nina is in pine bluff through the weekend. holla at me if’n you want to join us on our exploration. and if you can’t pay the fee to get on it, i heard you can at least drive up and look upon it. and that’s somethin’.

awesome!
last year when my oldest went to public school oh so briefly we pulled him out the week they were having fire prevention awareness week. he never got his hat or coloring book. ah, the parental guilt. guilt no more. i think i may have made up for it.
if you call your nearest station and make an appointment they LOVE kids and parents to take a tour. so cool. we got to see where they eat dinner (oh, how i want their over-sized table!). the firefighters came down the pole for us. we were there for them leaving for an actual rescue. and we learned SO much. like we have a bomb squad in little rock, who knew? the kids practiced how to make a 911 call with a recorded operator. he taught them how to climb out a window. and that kids often sleep through smoke detectors (mine do - i routinely burn dinner after their bedtime) but for about $10 they have recordable smoke detectors that you can call their name and tell them what to do (it alternates the voice with the typical alarm). amazing how your sheep know your voice. we’ll be getting one of them.
living the good life and sugar and spice met us in little rock for our field trip. with 1 extra friend thrown in the mix we had a total of 4 adults (my hubby went with us!) and 12 kids!

Make Way For Ducklings by Robert McClosky
our second week in Five In A Row is complete. and what fun it was!
we made ducky projects to start the week out. i love seeing how my middlest’s personality is coming out in his art work now. it’s as much fun as it was when my oldest just got started creating things. and they’re work is so THEM!
and then we finished up the week with a field trip to the Peabody hotel in Little Rock to see the famous ducks parade down to their fountain. of course, the viewing of the ducks wouldn’t be complete without a complete fit by my 20 month old in the middle of the presentation. and i realized i had moved from freakin’-out-first-time-paranoid-mom to a mother of 3 1/2 when in the midst of the fit and uppity stares from everyone, i was snapping pics and laughing out loud at her. when i used to wonder how moms of so many kids did it, i think i now know. they laugh. a lot. and ignore everybody else. and look as crazy as a betsy-bug!

saturday we went to little rock for our first field trip for school. it was great! and i loved this pic from the day. we’re studying the children’s book Owl Moon and we went to the capitol to look at statues so we can study imagery use in literature and up on a cliff to get an idea of drawing from the aerial view (it was fun to look at all the “little” cars down below and to see the river and all those “humungous” buildings look so little. it gave us an “owl’s” eye view!

what a space filled weekend!
saturday my honey and i went to the Episphere in Little Rock and learned more than we ever wanted to know about black holes. AMAZING! if you haven’t been to the episphere - you must go. and it’s not the same thing as the Imax.
and then i got up from a nap on tuesday just in time to see the sts-121 lift off! after all these years of seeing lift-offs it still made me cry. i’m so a girl!
i love being a geek!
