Astronomy

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times before we’re studying Astronomy this year.  We’re using Jeannie Fulbright’s Exploring Creation with Astronomy.  I’m mostly focusing on the 2nd and 4th graders – they are the ones that seem to pay attention when I’m reading aloud and they are the ones required to keep notebooks.  The other day I had them help me color in planets and the sun to hang from our ceiling fan over the table.  It’s obviously not to scale or in perfect order, but it helps give them a constant visual.  And hey, it’s cute.

You never know how much the smaller ones are picking up as you go along though.  This morning my 5 year old girl sat down to just play with Tux Paint on the computer alone.  She kept saying “don’t look, Mama”.  Isn’t it so hard to not look after they say that, I mean, I never even notice or pay attention to what they’re doing until they say that and then I get in trouble when I look over when they say, “Hey, Mama!” followed quickly by “don’t look!”  Anyway, I tried to not look.  She asked me once if “ch” said “sshhh” and I corrected her that “sh” makes the “sssshhhh” sound.  And then she called me over to finally “come see!”  And this is what she had created.

The words are “siis” = “science” and “creashin”= “creation” – the title of this is “science creation”.  Pretty amazing.  Also noteworthy is that they are all revolving around the sun.  Yep, my kindergartner is also learning astronomy apparently.  LOVE homeschooling, by the way.

If you would like to leave her a comment on her blog she made a post about her picture, told me what to title it, and what to say about it, that would be great!
