In The Meantime Let’s Play A Game

I’m sick, y’all.  That’s only an excuse for today though.  Because, though I’ve been missing in action here on my blog, I’ve only been sick for a few hours.

Yesterday we got our tree up.  I lurve it.  Our pre-lit that we’ve had for years had one too many fall-downs last year and it got burned right along with porch couch last week.  We opted for a live tree (which was only $40) and then we may buy a fake tree at the after-Christmas sales, though with the price of this live one we may do this for years to come.  It’s gorgeous.  Pics to follow and sweet stories to accompany when I’m feeling up to getting off the couch and uploading pictures.

The Homeschool Post Awards’ chance for voting is over and the results will be announced soon.  Thank y’all so much for supporting me!

I have some more “How we adapt our homeschooling curriculum” posts in the queue.  And I’ve been thinking about doing another installment in the “Attachment Parenting” series I was doing before.

So, while I’m sitting here on the couch doing nothing with a bunch of sick kids and sick myself (you’re laughing with me, right?) do you have any questions you’d like to know?  Kind of like I did a few months back in round 1 and round 2.  Did I answer all y’all’s questions then?  I don’t even remember.  Do you have any more?  Anything from the “How do you do … such and such” to “What’s your middle name and how do you feel about that?”

And I’d love to get to know you as well.  If you’re a lurker or Facebook fan and I don’t regularly correspond with you I’d love for you to leave me a comment telling me a little something about yourself, maybe how you found me, how I know you (you know, our own 6 degrees of separation kind of deal) or maybe a blog link.  I’d love to get to know y’all better!

If the live tree is fairly fresh, it will also smell wonderfully in your house :-)

I’m sad to hear y’all are sick and hope y’all feel better soon. The advantage to y’all being sick at once is hopefully y’all will get better at once, too, instead of dragging this out for weeks as you get it one by one. (and no, I never say y’all cuz I’m a northerner, but it was kind of fun…hee hee)

    Blessings,
    Tammy ~@~

We have always had a live tree, even when we lived on Guam and they arrived looking like Charlie Brown’s tree and the rest of the needles fell off once they got inside in the AC so that by the time Christmas came around we had a brown tree skeleton with ornaments- on the upside, I had no trouble taking the tree down Christmas afternoon and moving on to other things :)

A few years ago we brought home a tree that they wrapped in a twine web so that it was all tight and didn’t leave its needles all over the van and fight you to come in the door… my kids freaked out (because they do that) that it wasn’t right and trees should have branches that stick out and just because I’m that kind of mom I put it in the tree stand just like that and wrapped lights around it and told them that’s how it was. Hmm, maybe I should write a post with those pictures…

Hope you feel better soon, I’m ignoring the sniffles to get a paper written but I feel a full-blown sick coming on at 11 a.m. Pacific time on Dec 7 just because I can be sick as soon as finals are over. We might get a snow day tomorrow and I can stay in my jammies and worry about my paper all day- I should just write it and get it over with.

PS I found you right after I found Melissa and I’m not sure how I found her

I’d love to see more of your attachment parenting series. I’m an attachment parenting girl myself and love to see how other mamas do it. Or at least be able to say, “Oh, she does that, too!” Right now I’m typing with a baby girl asleep in my arms– it’s great!

A couple of questions for you: what blogs do you read just for fun? What is your favorite holiday? With all the hard aspects of parenting, what do you find easy?

So sorry you are sick. ;( Boo. When Mama gets sick, it’s hard for the whole family… and, from my experience, the house gets shot, too.
Drink some hot tea, take some extra vitamin C, and rest for as long as you can. Hope you feel better soon!

I’m sure I can come up with plenty of questions!– I’ll get back to you. ;)

    Hi,
I have been a mostly lurker on your blog for about a year now. I have no idea how I found you. However, I enjoy your blog very much. You have a wonderful perspective on life. I hope you feel better real soon. I would love to hear about your Christmas traditions? How do you deal with the glut of Christmas (embrace or limit)? What are your favorite Christmas books?

    Blessings,
    Dawn

Craigslist is so great in Washington. You could furnish a home BEAUTIFULLY with a little patience and persistence. There are TONS of free artificial trees on there this time of year as people upgrade, and especially after Christmas when they decide they don’t want them anymore…ALL IN THE FREE section. My house is free craigslist furnished, and I’ve got to say, it doesn’t look like a thrift store! Almost every single item in my home was free, well, at least all of the furniture pieces. If it wasn’t free, I had something free that I sold used on craigslist, then used that little bit of cash to buy used on craigslist. LOVE IT! I just sat and sobbed in my living room the other night looking around at some beautiful things that I have and asking why in the world the Lord still sees fit to bless me. Doesn’t he know me? I mean, like not just when I lose my temper, or the things I say about people to just my husband, but the things that go through my head and the things I’ve done in the past? Yup. He sure does. And yet…He still loves me and blesses me abundantly. It makes me sick and it makes me want to fall to my face in appreciation all at the same time. How a God can love something so ugly and dirty and sure to give him a bad reputation, I don’t know. It boggles my mind that our God is truly that loving and compassionate. That He loved us while we were yet sinners, and bestows His crazy mercy on us…ALL the time. <3

Hi! I stumbled upon your blog about a year ago while I was trying to find some support for my strong urge to homeschool my young toddler (my whole family thinks I’m crazy). Yours is one of the few I also follow on facebook, too.
I’m sure I can come up with oodles of questions…
What do YOU do to rejuvenate yourself? do you need alone time or time with your hubby?
How do you communicate with your hubby to ensure you are both getting what you need to make the family function well? do you find you do things/plan things best together or do you divide up your responsibilities based on your abilities/time?
My husband and I are finding we are each needing to compromise in areas we never even thought about pre-kids. We have agreed the one with the most conservative view of the situation would win–end of story. In what area(s) do you feel you compromise in order to continue that united front of parenting? Why I thought my hubby would have the same viewpoint as I did in regards to things like disciplining or even vaccinating is beyond me. what a fun adventure! Thanks for letting me get a glimpse of your adventure and allowing me to feel I’m not too crazy :)
