Babywearing ~ Where were you for the first 3 kids?!

Me wearing Baby (age 7 months) back in May of this year in my Moby Wrap.

Ever since I discovered babywearing back with colicky BigMan and my wonderful Ergo I was in love.

Here’s BigMan when he was just older than a year in the Ergo.

Wearing babies is SO very worth learning how to do it correctly and safely.  Inform yourself and others.  These 2 places can help you do just that.  Stephanie of Adventures in Babywearing is hosting a call to action and giveaway and the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance Facebook page is sending out an SOS.  Link up, speak out, learn, spread the word, and wear those babies safely!

I cant’s stand Princess in that pic! So cute!

If I could start over at the beginning I would buy-
    a great breast pump
    a video baby monitor
    a glider rocker or recliner
and a Moby baby wearer. I should get one for Skyler. Even though he’s almost 2, I don’t see any signs of him letting us put him down anytime soon . . .

Ah, yes. It was my 2nd child (Moriah) who was colicky and introduced us to babywearing. In desperation, I bought a Snuggli from Wal-Mart. Then a friend of mine let me try her OTSBH, and I found a Nojo at Wal-Mart that was very similar. I wore her in a vertical position and life became much easier!
I used a Maya wrap with the last three, I learned to breastfeed my children in it, and we reached a new level of simplicity! We nursed in such places as walking through Wal-Mart, in the Communion line at church, football games…and nobody ever noticed.
I’ve never tried a Moby, but I’m looking at trying something new this time around. Maybe we can get together sometime and you can give me a demonstration?

I feel the SAME way! I started wearing a crappy department store sling with my third child and though he loved it it was painful for me. With my fourth child I bought a great pouch sling and I am SO THANKFUL that I did. LOVE IT! :)

See that’s the thing, there is a learning curve to babywearing, and we can’t deny it. It can be done wrong. I remember tying my Moby wrap in front of a full length mirror when I got it, just to make sure I was doing it right.

And you? Are adorable. Just sayin’.

I love wearing my babies, but I’m embarrassed (and thus confessing it out loud in hopes of it changing my ways) to say that I don’t wear baby in public because I am just too embarrassed by my fat rolls and the way the big pieces of material (or straps from an ergo) that are hugging my back and sides show what I actually look like. It’s so stupid and shallow. I’m not pretending I’m 125 anymore, but really…I’d rather uncomfortably hold a baby than show off the rolls. So stupid. Sounds even more lame as I write it. Time to check that one off my insecurity list and get over it. Ugh.

I LOVE IT MANDY!!!!!!!!!!! TheJoyfulChaos should piggy-back on this and take a straw poll of the three or four main things you’d buy or do differently to make life easier with baby number one.

Mine would also be…video baby monitor, put your baby in their crib and take a shower (they’ll live…believe it or not), invest in TALL quality walk through gates, and the baby carrier. The carrier I liked best was the hippy mama kind that was one big piece of fabric and could carry baby sideways, front ways, on the back, or upside down. ;) Can’t remember what it’s called. I borrowed it…for two years. :)

    I love my Moby, to this day. Unfortunately, my toddler doesn’t feel the same {sad panda face}

You are absolutely adorable, and I can see where your children get it from <3
