Our Laundry System

…That works!

I wrote before about how I had just started a laundry system and hoped that it would work.  It does!  I’ve tweaked a few things and here are the updates.

Before:

The differences:  besides the child sitting on the table?  The table now has a square of wood board to keep the clothes from constantly falling to the floor when I’m folding them.  This table works until we build something better for it.  I condensed the 2 shelves into one.  Love the new one shelf system.

Below, inside the laundry room you can see that I got the laundry sorters!  (thanks, mother-in-law!)  It’s working great so far.  We couldn’t find larger ones, so I know I have a load when both little baskets are full.  Even the 3 year old can sort the laundry when he carries it in there now.  Woo hoo!

Staying the same?  I still don’t fold laundry, except for bedding and towels.  That has been life-changing, let me tell you.  They fold and put away.  Also, I just get my clothes, the baby’s, and the 3 year old’s from the baskets.  I never put them away – this is their home.  Fine with me.

Now:

Also, the “to put up” aka “outgrown clothes” bucket on the top of the dryer?  Worked marvelously.  It got super full recently and I carried it into the bedroom closet where I have their labeled buckets and sorted them all at once.  Beautiful.

OK…so, I know I’m supposed to be commenting on your (wonderful, inspiring) Laundry Conquering…but, I just feel lazy (un-homemaking-like) this week, so…

I’d like to know about the TimeLine please.

    Thank You.

I love that there are some groups that you DON’T fold!! I honestly go through the baby’s clothes quicker than I can even put them away on the messy days!

But I think not folding the kids’ laundry is awesome!!! LOL!! Seriously, I fold it and for their chores the next day they are supposed to get it from the couch and put it away in their drawers…. you think it gets to the dresser and into the drawer FOLDED!!!!??? I might have to implement THAT idea;)

Ok here is my question. You said: “I carried it into the bedroom closet where I have their labeled buckets and sorted them all at once.”

Please explain what these labeled buckets are and how you sort things into them. And how you deal with seasonal changes of clothes/saving clothes for the next child down.

I’m also curious about the timeline (is that what that is?) along the top of your wall. Awesome.

Another question. Can you share more about your paint color? Is it more a brown-grey or a brown-beige? I’m really digging it. Is that the same color you have in all of your downstairs? We are getting ready to move and I’m needing to decide whether or not I want the same paint color throughout the living room/dining room & kitchen (it’s a smaller home so I’m thinking that would look best…) or different colors for each of the areas..

What a great space to have for your laundry area…and extended space. I like that you put a bin on your dryer for things to pack away. I always have them folded on mine, but when the pile gets to large, it becomes a tower ready to topple…the bin is a great solution.

Thanks for the tour and idea.

    Blessings ~
