How Do I Do It?

I don’t know.  Really.  Every day I think, “How on earth am I going to do this today?  I have so much to do and so many people wanting something from me.  And, like, 5 minutes ago, already.”  And then every night I think, “Wow, I’m tired.  How did I do that?”

I’m looney.  It’s the only answer.

Here’s how we homeschool.  Are you ready?

All chaotically.  You’re surprised, I know you are.

Oh look, there’s another one perched on a table.  In his pajamas.  But he’s regrouping, so who cares, right?

I saw Ruthanne over at Eclectic Whatnot asking her readers to come forth with all the questions they’d had burning in their minds about her.  What a great idea.  And I’m all about imitation being the sincerest form and all, so…  What do ya wanna know about me?  About how I do whatever it is I do all day.  Let me have it and I’ll try to answer for ya.  Don’t leave me hanging here all alone.  I’ll get sad.  And paranoid.  And I might be driven to cry or eat chocolate chips out of the bag.

I’d say you’re doing it, Suzanne! They’re all sitting at a table working on their schooling. Works for me! :-)

i’ve been reading your site for a good month now–i love what you do and share! your kids look happy and healthy, so it must be working fine. :)
Qs–how did you know how many kids you could “handle”? how did you get to 5 and stop? how do they all get “enuf” attn? i’m not criticizing, just looking for ideas on how to balance the needs of my 3.
are your kids calm or rowdy?
what’s your most effective way to deal with noise level in the house?
and finally, are you feeling better? i read how you were down a while back…i hope your heart is healed.

thanks again! i love coming here every day!

hey there girly! Love your new pic:) What i want to know is,… how do you know what to get them for each year to fill what the requirements are? Like obviously they need the usual, BUT how do you know which ones to get? I’m always stumped over buying curriculum and finding that it really doesn’t work for our kids..it always feels so wastefull to me on some level:( I guess maybe if our kids had less problems with writing it would be easier :)

What I want to know is….how do you get something done that requires you to concentrate?

Like…pay bills? Or write an e-mail, or cook supper?

I’m fairly new to your site……so I apologize in advance if you’ve talked about this elsewhere. My question might seem a little silly, but – I’m going to ask anyway! How do you keep your little boys busy? We have a girl and four boys (ages 11 mo. to 9 yrs.) and I’m constantly trying to come up with ideas to keep my boys from boredom. I hear all the time from them, “What can I do?” That question usually comes after schoolwork and after chores are done, and after they’ve played outside, played inside, etc. I just don’t have enough “constructive” stuff for them to do. So then I’m constantly being asked, “Can I watch TV?” Any thoughts or ideas?!!!

diane, i know you didn’t ask me but there are many I AM BORED lists on the web. cobble some together and print them out, hang on fridge and point boys to it.

some of the ideas–organize a collection, read a joke book–memorize jokes, make a hat, make paper chains, go to wiki how and learn how to do something new, sort thru photos–maybe write a letter to family or interview a family member, write a funny story, have them make an obstacle course, indoor/outdoor scavenger hunt or map to a treasure, have olders read to youngers, have olders set up a stuffed animal zoo for youngers or hide/seek the animals, have them put on a lip synch contest–incl decorating posters, making tkts and snacks for the event

like i said–tons out there. you might also google family home evening and get lots of ideas that way too (i’m not LDS, but there’s loads of good info on their sites)

? – do you feel the need to get away from your kids much, because I don’t…and it makes me feel weird…because our house is as crazy as yours, and I’m fine.

P.S. Sam’s sells REALLY BIG bags of chocolate chips. I must ban them. We made 1, as in UNO, batch of choco chip pancakes with this last one…and ate the rest straight from the bag…I say “we”, but it was mostly me.
