Observations From Being Nearly TV-less

Love your list!
Oh…. how I'd like to try living TV-less.
And, seeing as how I don't watch any shows and the kids only watch movies, I think we could do it. I don't know though… giving up our daily Backyardagains might kill me. It's such a quiet peaceful time in this house.

You've gotta add “no more frantic remote hunts” to your list. It's one of my husband's daily activities… ;-)

We actually had the same observation about watching the news last night: I could have gotten ALL that information in less than 5 minutes on the internet (and not been advertised to), thankyouverymuch.

i would really miss my dvr so much i might never watch tv again. i cannot tolerate commercials anymore, hardly even on the radio.

We just have good ol' rabbit ears. There are times when I miss having lots of different channels, and times when I'm glad we don't have them. :)

We've been tv-free since January and I think I'm loving it. Was actually going to post about that on Wednesday!

i'm not loving it. i want my dvr back. or some new fangled computer version
of it (ahem, matthew!) but i am enjoying the more creative time the kids
are having.

i don't mind being without all the channels (we can still get most of those
on the computer), but gosh i miss my tv dvr'd time with my hubby at night.
and like tonight – i know MyMiddlest would've love to have seen the
American win the snowboarding – he'd have been all about that. but he was
in bed. so we'll try to youtube it tomorrow instead of recording it.

it's not so much the commercials for me as just wanting to pause to check
on babies, pause to get some popcorn, pause to go to the bathroom. it's all
about me, really.

ugh, and all the lame cheesy jokes. really? and do you know what you're
reading ms. newscaster? you're smiling while talking about a tragedy –
makes me miss my cable news stations.

we went on our LAST dvr remote hunt this morning to send the box back. made
me crazy!
if you watch no shows you could definitely do it. i watched a bazillion
shows. it was what matt and i did for “us” time.
and you can netflix lots of shows through your computer if the speed is
fast enough – you can still get that kid quiet time. kipper has become a
favorite for BigMan now that his beloved dvr'd Monsters Inc. is gone.

Our TV has been on the fritz for a couple of weeks, and I've also been surprised that I seem to miss it more than the kids. The less we have it on during the day, the more time we can watch our shows in the evening before it starts making this ear-piercing pitch, so by limiting the cartoons I'm doing something healthy for them and getting a reward after they're tucked in. That said, thank God we can play some of their movies on the laptop, especially if we get more snow.

exactly. exactly. exactly! i love all the benefits of not watching so
much tv. however, i love watching tv. i said it. i'm an addict. and i
completely agree with the computer. it helps with the snow days and i've
discovered that not watching so much of it through the day allows them to
really WANT to see it when i really want them to see it. yep. i'm with ya!
