My Side of the Story – On Our Way

the morn of all 4 resized

After not sleeping well in the night, I gave up and got out of bed at 3 something.  Which wasn’t as terrible as it sounds since our alarm was set for 4am anyway.  We dressed little people, grabbed granola bars for them, and headed out into the quiet, dark pre-dawn.  As I was buckling BigMan I realized I was standing in a fire ant hill.  Matt rescued me, buckled BigMan, got his own bites, and then we both fought off ants in the van.  We arrived at Nana and Papa’s house – a welcome port in the still-building storms.  The only home along that road with lights on, coffee brewing, toys waiting, and smiles at the ready.  We kissed heads, hugged necks, left instructions, diapers, and parts of our hearts behind and drove down the road ahead of us.

I liked the part about “left…parts of our hearts behind” . So true! I always joked with my husband about how I was going on my “holiday” when I went in to have a baby:) As having all those kids keeps me so busy, I welcome the “4 day retreat” ( as I have had 5 c-sections due to some issue my body has with going into labour.. it just doesn’t. Even with “prodding”.lol) where I get to sleep as much as I want to, lay around in bed all day, read, drink and eat in bed, send for what I need all without being bothered in the least by anyone except the occasional nurse who takes my blood pressure, checks the vitals. I especially love the snuggly baby time I get without interruption, where they begin to learn how the Father takes care of them through us. I miss the rest of our kids pretty much as soon as we’ve left them, and love that first visit we get :)

Now see, that is how you get a “perfect” picture of all of them! Get them up at 4 am so they are still tired and sluggish, but so super excited about the day ahead, they still can’t help but smile.

That is such a perfect looking crew…..but I even more so love the one where they are all looking at their new brother!

I agree with Maury, once a year just wake them up in the middle of the night and get the family shot. :)
