After a week off (you know, for having a baby and all) we’re back at it! So, welcome to this week’s Children’s Book Tuesday!
I love Jan Brett. Really. We only own 3 of her books currently, but I aim to change that. She is amazing. Her art work is gorgeous. Her styling of the pages is masterful. She packs so much into one picture that my kids love playing “I spy” with the pages. I love how she has smaller pictures on the sides that show more of the story than she’s actually using words for. I love that the words she does choose are well-thought out, sparse, and quiet. I love that several of her books are not necessarily original (such as this one, obviously), but are a beautiful retelling. And, if that’s not enough, she has this amazing website. That I love to use in my homeschooling. And the printables on her site are free. Really? You put your art on your site for free printing so that kids can become more involved in the books they’re reading? Really? Jan Brett, you’re just amazing.
