Welcome to this week’s Children’s Book Tuesday!
Since it’s sickly season let’s look at our all-time favorite for this rotten time of year!
The Flea’s Sneeze
Written by Lynn Downey
Illustrated by Karla Firehammer
Once again, the pictures won me over immediately. Attractive for your 4-6 year old (or 30ish year old, if you’re us!) audience and enough busy-ness on each page to keep your littlest listener’s attention finding each of the animals. The storyline is cutesy and carries you along on its easy rhyme.
We love, love, love this book! Sweet words, endearing pictures, a surprise ending, and cuddly time with your sick little one- just what the common cold calls for!

Your turn! Have your Children’s Books post ready including a link back to this post and then enter your name or website and your specific post URL. That’s it! Oh, that and go check out everybody else’s books – leave ‘em comments – we all love the love! And remember, I read every single comment – if you don’t have a blog or are just not up to posting right now, comment and let us know!

How about a recipe this morning that’s as wonderful as the weather?
was⋅sail
Pronunciation [wos-uhl]
–noun
1. a salutation wishing health to a person, used in England in early times when presenting a cup of drink or when drinking to the person.
2. a festivity or revel with drinking of healths.
I have a friend who’s mom started a tradition in our house years ago. Wassail. A seasonal drink that tastes as great as it smells and is perfect for Christmastime. And fall. Made for this time of year when the weather turns cooler alongside the changing of the leaves.
This morning I only wish I had the ingredients at the ready to serve to all my littles and the smells to waft through the house while the wind blows through my open windows.
- 2 quarts apple juice
- 2 1/4 quarts pineapple juice
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
Put all ingredients into a stockpot. Bring to a boil, then cover. Simmer covered 30 minutes. Uncover, continue to simmer 20 minutes. Take out cinnamon and cloves. Serve hot.
This makes a large amount – just right for inviting friends over or taking to a get-together. This can be made in the crockpot, as well. I usually have leftover wassail that I pour into a pitcher, refrigerate, and serve by the cup full over the next week.
May you enjoy this drink as much as I do. And please, tell me what your favorite cool weather drink is!

Okay, Internets -
I’m back again. I finally did it and installed the “Follow Me” Google Friend Connect gadget on my site. I know, magic, right, since I’m a wordpresser and all the rest of my blogging friends are Blogspot kind of folks. I knew it was possible, I just held out. I don’t know, I’m a dweeb.
Anyway – please go over there to the right sidebar and click the “Follow” button so that I can see your smiling face (and consequently don’t feel so much like a nerd with me being my only follower.)

So, Wednesday was another check-up. All’s well. I am positive for Group B Strep again. Which is kind of a bummer, but not devastating. Please pray for TheFinalist – that he will be healthy at birth. All my vitals look good though and no change from last week. After a very robust start on my weight gain and what I thought would continue throughout the pregnancy has actually turned tide and I have to make sure I’m getting enough calories and eating healthy. I know, right, don’t hate me, I’ve NEVER had this problem since I was, like, 10. But I’m so sick so often that I rarely want to eat. Nothing sounds good and everything makes me ill. It’s a different kind of problem to have. But we’re cruising along fine, I have no excess fat around my belly anymore (wow, really?, never had that happen before), and the baby is doing well – so I’ll just consider it a jump start on the losing process after he’s here. Now, if I can just maintain the weight loss once he comes, that will be the kicker.
Sunday will be 37 weeks. That’s a milestone that I’m always happy to hit. A definite beginning of the end. That means 3 weeks – tops. Unbelievable. The house is coming together (thanks to my sweet friend and amazing hubby) - because you know, in order to have a baby you must turn your entire house upside down and then reorganize it all while you can’t physically do any of those things and while grouchily telling everyone else to make it happen. And then crying. Just for the drama of it. Right? That’s how getting ready for a baby works, right? Even your fifth when you should know better. But, listen. Shh. Don’t you hear it? I do, it’s the clock ticking audibly in my ears. Much like Silar. And it makes me about as psycho. Just to warn you.
By the way, my newest child still doesn’t have a middle name. My husband says we can call him anything we want but we’re writing on the birth certificate “Parker Parker Parker”. Please help us with a middle name.
And now for your weekend wish:
May all the moments of it be just as tender as the kiss that followed.
