My dad always said it ends up in the same place anyway.. I bet it probably tasted good even if the result wasn’t exactly what you hoped for.

Just cut it all up, add whipped cream and some strawberries and it will look all pretty again… not that I have any experience doctoring messed-up cakes… ;-)
